Gilbert's Party Barn's Hare Scramble
We need an ice cold margarita!
That's me on the left and Nub on the right after getting the checkered flag. Since I'm in my 30s, and Nub's in his 50s, I think we should have won a trophy for just finishing the race.

I hope I don't break a nail
This was our only female teammate: My girlfriend Amy Mann. This was her first race ever. She had only ridden the quad once, the night before, and was terrified before the race. Once the race started she rode the entire half-hour straight and won first place too. Well, she was the ONLY racer in her class so I guess you could say she won and lost at the same time. ;-)

I got my margarita!!!
To celebrate our fine day of racing I decided to drink way too many Margaritas and other beverages. Needless to say, the following day sucked! I don't know which was worse... My sore muscles or pounding head! (Nub, Steve McCalister and me checking out quad photos)

Nub, my race partner, was once a top-notch oval track racer back in the 70s and 80s on motorcycles so he had his race face on before the flag dropped. He even raced with a very popular racer, Jay Springstien, back in the old days when cardboard was the precurser to kevlar. Did I mention Nub's in his 50s?

Well, the start of the race went well until everyone discovered the "Sippy Hole" that Roger Gilbert had made into a sticky, muddy, quad trap that only 3 out of 24 quads made it through... Myself included. Here I thought I was in 3rd place after the 1st lap but because of the large amount of riders they decided to restart the race, bypassing the hole.

The restart was not as good because I was in-between shifting gears and ended up in neutral when the flag dropped. Luckily there was a few wrecks and jam-ups in the woods allowing me to regain positions I lost from my brain shutdown at the start. After several laps we switched riders and Nub proceded to destroy anyone who challenged him in the corners. He passed quite a few riders and gave me a breather too. We kept this up until the white flag dropped an hour later and Nub rode the final lap taking the checkers for the first time in decades.

We had a great time and we were planing to race again in the fall of 2000 but unfortunately Roger Gilbert, the race organizer, died in a fatal car crash about 2-months afterwards. He was a great supporter of motorcycle / ATV events and he will be greatly missed to his family, friends and off-road enthusiasts.

As for Team Viagra Racing plans we don't have any events that I am aware that we will be racing. We'll see how it goes and maybe I can get out there for a fall race or two.
